[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Kwangdong Pharmaceutical announced on the 8th that it has achieved cumulative sales of 90 billion KRW since the release of the renewed product 'Kwangdong Gyeongokgo' in 2016.

Kwangdong Gyeongokgo is Kwangdong Pharmaceutical's "founding product" and will mark its 60th anniversary next year. It is manufactured by blending four medicinal ingredients?raw Rehmannia root, ginseng, Poria, and honey?in an optimal ratio, then steaming the mixture for 120 hours in a GMP-certified facility. It is an over-the-counter medicine available only at pharmacies, known for its tonic effects on post-illness recovery, weak constitution, physical fatigue, and menopausal disorders.

Initially, Kwangdong Gyeongokgo was released in a viscous liquid form packaged in jars. To improve ease of consumption, it was newly introduced in stick pack form in 2016. This change reflected consumer feedback that the jar-type product required a spoon for each dose and made it difficult to take a consistent amount each time. With improved medication adherence, market response has also been positive, recording cumulative sales of over 44.8 million packets as of last month.

A Kwangdong Pharmaceutical official said, "The secret to Kwangdong Gyeongokgo's popularity lies in continuous quality control and enhancing ease of consumption through the stick pack renewal," adding, "We will continue to engage with young consumers who have recently shown increased interest in health management."
