[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jung] Hyundai Steel announced on the 8th that it has joined hands with the Korean Society of Steel Construction, Hyundai Engineering, and Haejeon Industry to develop floodgates to prevent flood damage.

On the previous day at the Dangjin Steelworks, Hyundai Steel’s Head of R&D Division Choi Joo-tae, Hyundai Engineering’s Head of Infrastructure Industry Development Division Park Chan-woo, CEO of Haejeon Industry Kim Hyung-sik, and President of the Korean Society of Steel Construction Choi Dong-ho signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for joint technology development of flood prevention safety facilities.

The agreement includes joint development of disaster prevention safety technologies to prevent flood damage, research cooperation, and win-win collaboration for mutual growth.

According to the agreement, Hyundai Steel and partners will develop a new floodgate product optimized for large industrial facilities and factory entrances, which will be installed at the entrance of Hyundai Steel’s Pohang plant that suffered flood damage from Typhoon Hinnamnor last summer.

Hyundai Steel will lead the research and development, Haejeon Industry, which possesses the highest level of domestic technology related to floodgates, will develop the product, and the Korean Society of Steel Construction, the only specialized academic organization in the steel structure field in Korea, will verify the floodgate’s sealing performance and structural performance. The final completed product will be installed at Hyundai Steel’s Pohang plant by Hyundai Engineering, which will be responsible for construction.

Through this agreement, Hyundai Steel plans to build partnerships with academic societies and associations in the construction sector, construction companies, and specialized construction firms to strengthen relationships through continuous technological cooperation and active R&D investment in the future.

Additionally, Hyundai Steel will establish and expand a platform for developing construction solution products that combine Hyundai Steel’s premium construction steel (H CORE) with customers’ construction technologies.

A Hyundai Steel official said, "We will continue technological exchanges and mutual cooperation with customers in the construction field to contribute to building a safe social infrastructure and simultaneously promote sustainable growth of the company."
