Installation of 'Jaywalking Prohibition Facilities' at Four High-Risk Traffic Accident Roads in Seoul Jaywalking Prohibition Facility

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee has selected four areas with a high risk of accidents caused by jaywalking and will install jaywalking prohibition facilities by the first half of next year.

The jaywalking prohibition facilities are traffic safety devices installed in the center of the road as simple median barriers to prevent traffic accidents caused by pedestrians jaywalking and illegal U-turns by vehicles and motorcycles.

The installation sites are Ujeongguk-ro in Jongno-gu, Nangye-ro in Dongdaemun-gu, and Dorim-ro and Gyeongin-ro in Yeongdeungpo-gu.

On the 6th, the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee held a 'Citizen Participation Jaywalking Prohibition Facility Installation Deliberation Meeting' at the Seoul City Hall Citizen Hall to select the sites.

At the deliberation meeting, locations where applications were received due to the risk of traffic accidents caused by jaywalking and illegal U-turns from each police station were reviewed.

Kim Seongseop, standing member of the Autonomous Police Committee, said, "The selected sites will complete installation work in the first half of 2023 through prompt budget support."
