Yeosu City Receives Great Response for 'Dine Comfortably' Standing Table Support Project

27 Food Establishments Replace 298 Sets of Dining Tables This Year... Up to 2 Million KRW Support Per Establishment

[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) is receiving great response for its 'Table Support Project' promoted as an advanced food culture improvement project.

According to the city, this year, 27 food establishments were supported with table sets, replacing a total of 298 sets (including chairs).

The subsidy per establishment was also increased from the previous 1 million KRW to a maximum of 2 million KRW this year, covering 50% of the replacement cost (a total of 45 million KRW), with the remaining cost borne by the business owners.

The traditional floor-seating dining culture causes many inconveniences not only for people with mobility difficulties such as the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women but also does not fit the lifestyle patterns of modern people accustomed to table seating.

Since 2015, Yeosu City has been promoting the table support project, and so far has replaced and supported 2,880 table sets in 262 food establishments within the jurisdiction (with subsidies totaling 270 million KRW).

The city plans to continuously promote the table support project to improve the dining environment, as it has received high approval from not only food establishments but also citizens and tourists who use them.

A city official said, “Since starting the table support project in 2015, many food establishments have completed replacements. Ahead of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo, it is expected that the number of foreigners and tourists visiting the islands will increase, so next year we will prioritize supporting table sets for food establishments in island areas.”
