Inauguration Ceremony Held on the 7th at the National Assembly Hanok Sarangjae

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The ‘6th National Social Solidarity Economy Local Government Council,’ chaired by Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District, has been launched.

The council held an inauguration ceremony and elected new executives at 3 p.m. on the 7th at Sarangjae, a traditional Korean house in the National Assembly in Yeouido.

The ‘National Social Solidarity Economy Local Government Council’ is a cooperative body of local governments gathered to seek regional development through the activation of the social economy and social innovation. It supports the successful implementation of local government policies through cooperation and solidarity and is now approaching its 10th anniversary since its founding.

At the 6th inauguration ceremony, newly elected executives for the 8th term of local government announced a launch declaration with the goal of ‘Opening a Sustainable Future through Solidarity and Innovation,’ aiming to bring the social economy closer to the lives of the people. A welcome message was also delivered to promote the ‘UN Social Economy Resolution.’

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District and chairperson of the 6th term, stated, “I hope everyone will join together on the path toward a sustainable society that we all create together,” adding, “The council will strive to upgrade Korea’s social economy to the next level and utilize it as a core strategy for sustainable development.”

Eunpyeong District has been recognized for excellence in establishing a foundation for social economy activation by developing and actively promoting leading social economy policies in the social service sector, winning the national welfare project evaluation award in the social economy activation category for five consecutive years?the first in the country.

Through the vision of ‘Center of Tomorrow, Change of Eunpyeong,’ Eunpyeong District continues various achievements and efforts to leap forward as a central city of the social economy creating a new tomorrow.
