[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] On the 7th, Miryang City in Gyeongnam conducted disability awareness improvement training for voucher taxi drivers at the Miryang Disabled Human Rights Center.
In this training, a professional instructor was invited to provide education on disability human rights, sensitivity, and etiquette for responding to different types of transportation-vulnerable individuals. Additionally, a session was held to gather drivers' opinions on the operation to smoothly promote voucher taxis.
The city plans to pilot 12 voucher taxis next year to alleviate the inconvenience caused by long waiting times for special transportation vehicles (transportation-vulnerable call taxis). This is expected to significantly contribute to improving mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable individuals by supplementing the existing special transportation vehicles.
The target users of voucher taxis are non-wheelchair users who do not require special vehicles for the disabled, among the special transportation membership system fully implemented this year.
Operating hours are from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the service area is limited to within Miryang city. The usage fee is 1,500 KRW per ride, with a monthly limit of 100,000 KRW per individual.
Membership registration and dispatch requests can be made as before via the app call (Gyeongnam Special Transportation) or by phone call.
Lee Jong-hwang, Director of the Transportation Administration Division, said, “We are promoting various projects to improve mobility convenience and welfare for transportation-vulnerable individuals, including the introduction of low-floor buses and installation of electronic route maps, as well as voucher taxis. We plan to continue improving these services with ongoing interest.”
