[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] CJ ENM announced on the 7th that it has obtained the international environmental management standard ISO14001 certification.
ISO14001 is awarded after comprehensively evaluating whether a company has established a sustainable environmental management system. The evaluation criteria include the environmental impact of each business sector, improvement efforts, compliance with regulations, and more. After the initial certification is obtained, follow-up audits are conducted annually.
CJ ENM was highly praised for implementing continuous environmental performance improvement measures, including a company-wide environmental management system led by the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Committee, ▲studio remodeling and expansion of media wall studios, ▲operation of studio centers considering eco-friendly elements, ▲expansion of eco-friendly packaging and support for partner companies' products, and ▲employee volunteer campaigns to internalize an eco-friendly culture.
The commerce division replaced all lighting in broadcasting studios with LED lights since last year, reducing annual electricity consumption by 90%. Additionally, starting from February this year, it introduced the industry's first media wall studio, which reduces waste generated during the installation and dismantling of studio sets. After switching to media wall studios, set waste was reduced by 39.4% compared to the same period last year through the third quarter of this year. Currently, two out of five studios operate as media wall studios, with plans to convert two more studios by January next year.
Furthermore, it is gradually implementing packaging materials that do not use vinyl, non-woven fabric, or styrofoam, becoming the first in the TV home shopping industry to do so.
A CJ ENM official stated, “We established eco-friendly improvement goals and formulated corresponding plans and safety policies, practicing systematic ESG management, which earned us high evaluations in various areas. Moving forward, we will continue to lead the industry in eco-friendly management by exploring diverse approaches to preserve the environment of the Earth and local communities.”
