[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] All areas of concern for 'soil contamination' in Ulsan have been found to be safe.
The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 7th that the soil contamination status survey conducted at 65 sites of concern for soil contamination in Ulsan showed all sites to be compliant.
This survey was conducted from May to October this year at a total of 65 sites divided into 10 types of areas, including 14 sites in 'children's playground areas,' 14 sites in 'industrial complexes and factory areas,' and 10 sites in 'waste treatment and recycling areas.'
Although no sites exceeded the standards, some locations approached 70% or more of the soil regional standard values for heavy metals such as copper and zinc, and fluoride, leading to their designation for re-survey in 2023.
The survey items included 22 substances of concern for soil contamination, such as heavy metals like lead and arsenic, petroleum substances like benzene and toluene, as well as organophosphates and phenols.
The soil contamination status survey is conducted annually by selecting sites suspected of soil contamination and testing soil contamination levels, with the main purpose of preventing soil contamination and providing basic data for contaminated soil remediation.
