[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Lee Man-hee, a member of the ruling People Power Party and the ruling party secretary of the National Assembly's Special Committee for the Itaewon Disaster Investigation, said on the 6th, "I deeply regret that the meeting with the bereaved families of the victims was held unilaterally by the opposition party's special investigation committee without bipartisan agreement."
Lee stated this during his opening remarks at the People Power Party's "Special Committee on the Itaewon Accident Investigation and Safety Measures" meeting held at the National Assembly that day, emphasizing, "The People Power Party is prepared to meet directly with the bereaved families at any time, either together with or separately from the special investigation committee, with a heavy sense of responsibility and sincerity, and to listen to their voices."
The special investigation committee, composed of 18 members from both ruling and opposition parties, held a meeting with the bereaved families' group of the disaster victims on the 1st, but seven members from the People Power Party did not attend, citing that the schedule was unilaterally notified by the opposition party without agreement.
On that day, the ruling party members of the special investigation committee received reports from six related agencies, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the National Police Agency, on the progress of the accident response and support efforts to date.
