SK Discovery Establishes Bio Strategy and Investment Division to "Formulate Growth Strategy"

Jung-Hoon Kim Appointed as Head of R&D Center and Division Head at SK Chemicals

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] SK Discovery has established a Bio Strategy and Investment Division to formulate growth strategies and create synergies among its bio affiliates.

On the 6th, SK Discovery announced that it has newly created the Bio Strategy and Investment Division under the Bio Committee and appointed Kim Jeonghoon, Head of the R&D Center at SK Chemicals, as the division head.

The Bio Strategy and Investment Division was established to support the formulation of a master plan for bio growth strategies and to facilitate collaboration and horizontal expansion among affiliates, as the need to explore new business opportunities for SK Discovery’s bio affiliates has emerged.

Led by Division Head Kim Jeonghoon, the newly established Bio Strategy and Investment Division will have investment and R&D personnel from SK Chemicals, SK Plasma, and other affiliates jointly develop future growth strategies. They will conduct biotech and venture capital (VC) investments, joint reviews of investment targets, and collaborative future technology research according to each affiliate’s growth strategy, thereby expecting to generate synergies among the affiliates.

Newly appointed Division Head Kim graduated from Seoul National University College of Pharmacy and has been recognized as an expert in the pharmaceutical and bio sectors, having worked at SK Chemicals since 1998. With 25 years of experience leading overseas business, marketing, development, and research organizations at SK Chemicals, he is regarded as the ideal person to continuously drive innovation aimed at simultaneously promoting growth and synergy among SK Discovery’s bio affiliates.

Division Head Kim stated, “Each bio affiliate under SK Discovery possesses growth momentum through excellent talent and business portfolios. The Bio Strategy and Investment Division will play a sufficient role to help each affiliate grow further and create synergies.”
