[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] Samsung Electronics is collaborating with Naver to develop next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor solutions.
On the 6th, Samsung Electronics announced that it will cooperate with Naver to develop semiconductor solutions optimized for AI systems. The two companies plan to strengthen their AI technology competitiveness by developing new semiconductor solutions that can resolve data bottlenecks in AI systems and maximize power efficiency.
The performance improvement of "hyperscale AI" leads to an exponential increase in the amount of data and computations to be processed. However, existing computing systems have limitations in improving performance and efficiency, creating an urgent need for new AI-dedicated semiconductor solutions.
Samsung Electronics is leading the change in the memory paradigm by being the first in the industry to develop computational storage technology such as smart SSDs, HBM-PIM and PNM with embedded computing functions in high-performance memory, and next-generation interface-based CXL capable of efficiently processing large volumes of data. Starting with this collaboration with Naver, Samsung Electronics plans to continuously collaborate on the expansion of next-generation memory solutions supporting high-performance computing such as computational storage, HBM-PIM, and CXL.
Han Jin-man, Vice President and Head of Strategic Marketing at Samsung Electronics’ Memory Business Division, said, "Through cooperation with Naver, we will develop optimal semiconductor solutions that can solve memory bottlenecks in hyperscale AI systems," adding, "We will expand our next-generation memory lineup leading the market, including PIM and computational storage, by reflecting the needs of AI service companies and users through semiconductor solutions."
