[Mokpo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] Mokpo City in Jeollanam-do received the Grand Prize for the Best Travel Destination of the Year at the ‘2022 SRT Awards’ hosted by SRT Magazine.
The ‘2022 SRT Awards’ selected the ‘Best Travel Destination of 2022’ through a two-step evaluation process. In the first round, 10,093 readers participated in September, followed by a second round where travel writers, travel journalists, and editors’ ratings, as well as visitor tourism database (DB) analysis, were conducted to select 10 cities.
Mokpo City, which preserves 125 years of modern history since its opening as a port, was recognized as the best travel destination satisfying all five senses with abundant content such as the country’s longest marine cable car, the Marine W Show, and Mokpo’s 9 delicacies (Mokpo 9-mi).
A city official stated, “This award is especially meaningful because it was directly selected by tourists who visited Mokpo and travel experts. We will continue to expand various travel products and infrastructure to achieve an era of 20 million tourists.”
Meanwhile, SRT Magazine selected the Mokpo Modern History Museum 1st Hall as a must-visit attraction in Mokpo, and Sihwa Alley as a popular Instagram photo spot. The Modern History Museum 1st Hall and Sihwa Alley have gained attention as tourist destinations, loved as popular filming locations for various media such as the movie ‘1987’ and the drama ‘Hotel Del Luna.’
