[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] SK Telecom, SK Broadband, KT, and LG Uplus announced on the 5th that they held the launch ceremony for the 'Joint Safety and Health Vehicle Campaign of the Four Telecom Companies - Ministry of Employment and Labor and Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency' together with the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency.
This campaign is being carried out by the four telecom companies jointly attaching the campaign's core slogans to 3,500 work vehicles to raise public awareness of safety and health. The slogans include "Safe and Healthy Workplace, Happy Korea" and "WE for Safety, Establishing a Safety and Health Management System," and the campaign is expected to continue for more than six months starting this month.
Since early this year, the four telecom companies have been autonomously operating the 'Four Telecom Companies Safety and Health Council,' which includes safety and health executives and department heads from each company, to improve the safety and health standards of the domestic telecommunications industry.
This council shares and discusses safety and health trends, new technologies, accident cases, and cooperative safety and health win-win measures with partner companies. This campaign also originated from a proposal by this council.
Meanwhile, on November 30th last year, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced the 'Serious Accident Reduction Roadmap,' which focuses on a self-regulatory prevention system centered on risk assessment rather than post-regulation and punishment, aiming to reduce the fatal accident rate to the average level of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) by 2026.
Ryu Kyung-hee, Director of the Industrial Safety and Health Headquarters, emphasized, "The drastic reduction of serious accidents, the goal of the roadmap, is only possible when all members of society establish a culture that values safety as an important value, and a safety culture must be supported to become an advanced safety country." She added, "This campaign is significant in that it was voluntarily led by the four representative telecom companies to prevent industrial accidents among telecom workers and improve public safety awareness. We expect that the vehicles of the four telecom companies participating in the campaign will travel nationwide and contribute to improving safety culture awareness. The government will also actively cooperate and support so that such safety culture activities by companies can spread to other industrial sectors."
The four telecom companies stated, "Through the Safety and Health Council, we plan to continuously cooperate to enhance industrial accident prevention measures such as smart safety solutions and create an environment where workers can work safely and healthily."
