[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk’s ‘Saemgoeul Tteok Harmony Platform’ is gaining great popularity from various groups such as kindergartens and schools by developing and operating content based on the history and stories of tteok (Korean rice cakes) and customized programs.
According to the city on the 5th, the ‘Saemgoeul Tteok Harmony Platform’ was promoted as part of the Urban Regeneration New Deal project to foster the tteok industry, create new jobs, and contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
The platform is housed in a three-story building at the entrance of Gate 2 of Saemgoeul Market, consisting of an exhibition room where visitors can learn about the origin and history of tteok, and an experience room where they can make and taste various types of tteok firsthand.
The tteok-making program is operated by appointing local tteok experts as instructors, allowing participants to experience a wide variety of tteok, from traditional types such as Injeolmi, Baramtteok, and Jeolpyeon to fusion tteok like Tteokcaron, Tteok cake, and baked glutinous rice cakes.
In particular, the urban regeneration tour-linked program, which includes a rich commentary by urban regeneration guides while touring the area near Saemgoeul Market and the urban regeneration project district, followed by participation in the tteok-making program, is gaining popularity.
Participants can experience the process of making tteok during the two-hour program and either taste or take home the tteok they made themselves.
Experiences or visits are available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and applications for the tteok-making experience and inquiries about venue rental can be made to the ‘Saemgoeul Tteok Harmony Platform.’
A city official said, “We hope this will be an opportunity to preserve and develop our disappearing traditional tteok culture through tteok exhibitions and experiences,” adding, “We plan to continue promoting the local tteok culture widely and establish the identity of the specialized tteok industry to make it a representative tourist resource.”
