[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Yeongyang County, Gyeongbuk, was selected as the best local government nationwide and received the grand prize on the 5th in the ‘2022 Budget Efficiency Case Evaluation’ selected by a civic group.
This award is given by the civic group Taxpayers Movement for Proper Use of Taxes (co-representative Kim Seong-ho, former Minister of Justice), which conducts a blind evaluation of local governments' budget execution cases. Yeongyang County was recognized for generating an economic effect of about 5 billion KRW by hosting the ‘17th Yeongyang Wild Vegetable Festival’ and was selected as the best local government.
The Yeongyang Wild Vegetable Festival, which started in 2005, is Yeongyang County’s representative festival and one of the most notable spring festivals nationwide.
This year, it was held as an in-person festival for the first time in three years since COVID-19, operating various programs such as wild vegetable picking experience, eco-friendly camping, Sasang Constitution Wild Herb Center, and Meat Resting Place, receiving great responses from visitors.
Oh Do-chang, the mayor of Yeongyang County, said, “We will continue to execute the budget soundly and efficiently to revitalize the local economy and realize advanced administration that earns the trust of the residents.”
The incorporated association Taxpayers Movement for Proper Use of Taxes was launched in September 2012 as the Citizens’ Action for Proper Use of Taxes. It contributes to enhancing fiscal responsibility and soundness by suppressing budget waste and populist policies in public institutions and monitoring whether taxes are used transparently and correctly.
