[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Gyeongnam Miryang City won two crowns by simultaneously receiving the grand prize in both the city/county division and the public institution division at the ‘2022 Innovation and Active Administration Excellent Case Provincial Integrated Competition’ hosted by Gyeongnam Province.

The competition is held annually to discover and disseminate various changes and innovation achievements and to foster a culture of innovation and active administration. In this competition, the final rankings were decided through a three-stage process: an initial preliminary screening of cases submitted from the provincial headquarters, cities/counties, and public institutions in the fields of innovation and active administration, followed by a second online public vote by residents, and a third presentation evaluation of 11 outstanding cases that passed the first round.

Miryang City received the grand prize in the city/county division for the Social Welfare Department’s excellent case, “Reducing childcare burdens, making children happy, and creating a village-wide space that nurtures children’s dreams and talents! (Miryang-type Aikiwoom Learning Center Project).”

This project is a local brand business in the field of customized Aikiwoom education and care services reflecting the characteristics of Miryang City. It was highly evaluated for simultaneously solving the concerns of children who want to play in a third space after school and parents who want to leave their children in a safe place, as well as for addressing the relatively weak elementary and care services compared to infant care through a local government-centered approach.

The Miryang City Facilities Management Corporation won the grand prize in the public institution division with the case “Challenging ZERO water quality accidents by establishing an inflow water quality concentration measurement monitoring system!” It was recognized for contributing to the preservation of Miryang’s water system environment through stable water quality management by establishing an inflow water quality concentration measurement monitoring system and strengthening expertise in water quality analysis.

Mayor Park Il-ho said, “I feel great pride that the cases promoted by our city achieved excellent results by winning the grand prize at the provincial competition. We will continue to discover and promote diverse and challenging innovation cases so that they can return to citizens as good policies.”
