[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 5th at midnight that it has ended monitoring of contacts of the third confirmed monkeypox patient in the country.

Through epidemiological investigation, the contacts of the third confirmed monkeypox patient were classified into 7 high-risk, 9 medium-risk, and 20 low-risk individuals. They underwent active and passive monitoring for 21 days according to their level of exposure. Among the high-risk contacts, one person agreed to receive the monkeypox vaccine and was vaccinated post-exposure.

Among the 7 high-risk contacts, one person was confirmed as the fourth domestic case on the 22nd during active monitoring. The fourth confirmed case is a healthcare worker who was pricked by a needle while collecting a specimen from the third confirmed patient and is currently in isolation and receiving treatment. The Central Disease Control Headquarters explained that no additional confirmed cases were found among other contacts during the monitoring period.

The Central Disease Control Headquarters plans to share updates on domestic monkeypox cases through the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency website if additional confirmed cases occur in the future.
