[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] The leadership of the People Power Party unanimously criticized former President Moon Jae-in’s remark describing former National Security Office Director Suh Hoon as "a trusted asset with long experience and expertise."

On the morning of the 5th, Joo Ho-young, the floor leader of the People Power Party, stated at an emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly, "Was the U.S.-South Korea relationship really that good during Suh’s tenure, and was the North Korean nuclear crisis resolved? It seems former President Moon lives in a different world from the people."

Joo added, "The current North Korean nuclear missile threat is more serious than ever, and North Korea continues to threaten war daily. Those who dealt with the North Korean nuclear issue during the Trump administration have described former President Moon in their memoirs as close to a liar. I cannot understand what kind of trust existed between South Korea and the U.S."

He continued, "Throughout the Moon administration, under the pretext of clearing out deep-rooted evils, over 1,000 people were investigated and more than 200 were detained. They even arrested five National Intelligence Service chiefs, who are supposed to be security experts. Now, to call former Director Suh a security expert and a valuable asset is incomprehensible," he emphasized.

Emergency committee member Jeong Jeom-sik also said, "I want to ask former President Moon: who is responsible for driving such an asset to be labeled as a defector and evidence fabricator, causing such regrettable actions?"

Jeong stated, "Former President Moon’s daily insistence that the defector accusation was justified, without even a word of apology for Lee Dae-jin, who was killed by North Korean forces and not rescued, is a cruel act that causes the bereaved families to suffer twice. Does former President Moon have the right to make such remarks after clinging to a fake peace show, constantly watching the people be brutally killed by North Korean forces while only worrying about North Korea’s reaction?"

He added, "Instead of expressing fear of his own exposed faults as anger, former President Moon should stop intimidating the prosecution and politicizing the issue, apologize to the people, and take responsibility. That would be the minimum duty of a former president," he explained.

At the emergency committee meeting that day, Jeon Ju-hye also mentioned investigations into former President Moon. Jeon said, "Former President Moon should clearly state his position before the people, as he has admitted that his decisions were based on what he was reported and judged, rather than politically judging the prosecution and judiciary. There can be no sanctuary before crime, so investigation into former President Moon is inevitable. While our public officials were burned and falsely accused of voluntary defection, the people have been left wondering what former President Moon actually did for them, and they are demanding answers," she said.
