'Jungnang Mangwoo Space' Opening Selected as No.1 Among Top 10 News That Shined Jungnang-gu in 2022

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The top 10 news stories that highlighted Jungnang-gu in 2022 have been selected, including ‘Opening of Jungnang Mangwoo Space within Mangwoo History and Culture Park, embracing Korea’s modern and contemporary history,’ ‘80 billion KRW education budget support this year, ranked 3rd among autonomous districts,’ and ‘Acceleration of housing development projects such as Moa Town being selected the most among Seoul’s autonomous districts.’

The top 10 news stories of Jungnang-gu are an event where residents vote for the projects they resonate with the most among 20 major policies and projects promoted by the district throughout the year, selecting a total of 10.

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) conducted a survey on the top 10 news stories from the 16th to the 29th of last month for two weeks via the Jungnang-gu Office website, blog, and 16 community service centers. A total of 2,211 Jungnang-gu residents and staff participated in the survey.

As a result, ‘Opening of Jungnang Mangwoo Space within Mangwoo History and Culture Park, embracing Korea’s modern and contemporary history’ took first place with 10% of the votes. This is attributed to residents directly feeling and empathizing with the district’s efforts since 2020 to take over the management rights of Manguri Park from Seoul City, extensively refurbish the burial grounds, and steadily cultivate the park as a local cultural heritage site.

In particular, the ‘Jungnang Mangwoo Space,’ which opened in April this year, serves as a hub facility of the park, widely promoting the history and culture of Mangwoo History and Culture Park through planned exhibitions and education, providing meaningful attractions to visitors.

Second place, with 9% of the votes, was ‘80 billion KRW education budget support this year, ranked 3rd among autonomous districts.’ The district has doubled the education budget from 3.8 billion KRW in 2018 to 8 billion KRW this year by increasing it annually. The high ranking reflects residents’ satisfaction with this and their expectations for the improvement of public education quality. The education budget has been used to improve school facilities such as new libraries and operate specialized programs for each school, solidifying the foundation of public education.

Following that, ‘Acceleration of housing development projects such as Moa Town being selected the most among Seoul’s autonomous districts’ was selected third with 8% of the votes. Currently, the district is promoting projects with a total of 17 housing development candidate sites, including 7 selected as Seoul City Moa Town project sites. The plan is to develop old houses into comfortable and safe apartment complexes while securing parking lots and expanding residential infrastructure such as parks, libraries, and cultural and sports facilities, raising residents’ expectations for improved living environments.

Additionally, the top 10 news included ▲4th place ‘Over 100 Jungnang Masil events, establishment of direct text messages from the mayor to expand communication with residents’ ▲5th place ‘Installation of road heating systems on hills and slopes to prepare for a safe winter’ ▲6th place ‘Jungnang Forest Library awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for reading 1,000 books’ ▲7th place ‘Creation of specialized streets that residents want to visit throughout the area, designation of alley-type shopping districts’ ▲8th place ‘Opening of Jungnang’s first public indoor playground, Jungnang Indoor Playground’ ▲9th place ‘Start of design service for integrated development of Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town, full-scale promotion’ ▲10th place ‘Learning video production and radio DJ skills at Jungnang Media Center’.

Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “All staff are working together to promote various projects for a happier and newer Jungnang-gu. The residents’ keen interest and expectations give us an even greater sense of responsibility,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to carry out all projects without delay to enhance the pride and dignity of Jungnang residents.”
