[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Amid the ongoing Cargo Solidarity transport refusal crisis, Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Province, announced a strict response policy based on a zero-tolerance and uncompromising principle toward on-site management and illegal activities related to the transport refusal.
Governor Kim held the 2nd Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting of Gangwon Province on the afternoon of the 4th, ordering thorough monitoring of the situation. He stated, "The damage to residents caused by the Cargo Solidarity transport refusal continues to increase," and instructed, "Prepare measures such as filing lawsuits for compensation claims."
Regarding the general strike planned by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions on the 6th, Governor Kim urged, "In line with government policy, the province will closely manage the situation and actively respond to ensure residents do not feel anxious. Also, ensure that public officials maintain discipline until this situation is resolved."
The meeting comprehensively discussed the current damage status and response plans due to the Cargo Solidarity transport refusal, potential industrial damages, and alternative transportation methods.
In particular, swift responses will be made to the issuance of work commencement orders in industries such as petroleum refining and steel, where additional damage is feared. Preemptive measures will be taken to minimize residents' damage caused by the transport refusal, such as preventing fuel stocks at gas stations within the province from running out.
Earlier, on the 28th of last month, the province raised the crisis alert level to "Severe" and has been operating the provincial Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, composed of 13 departments from 10 task forces related to the Cargo Solidarity transport refusal, along with the police.
Meanwhile, at the ministerial meeting presided over by the President on the same day, the government decided to strictly take action against all illegal activities, including collective transport refusal, acts that obstruct or threaten normal operations, and retaliatory acts against drivers who resume normal operations afterward.
