[Asia Economy Reporter Sunmi Park] Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 4th that it held the '3rd Youth Cyberbullying Prevention Blue Elephant Online Forum.'
The forum's theme was 'The Ever-Evolving Cyberbullying and Its Eradication.' It was a forum to share the current state of youth cyberbullying evolving in various forms and to propose solutions.
In Part 1, under the theme 'The Ever-Evolving Cyberbullying,' cyberbullying victims, current teachers, and active police officers discussed the realities and seriousness of cyberbullying domestically and internationally. In Part 2, 'The Evolution and Eradication of Cyberbullying,' experts such as NGO activists, entrepreneurs, and professors discussed response measures to solve the problem.
The experts emphasized that to eradicate cyberbullying, prompt action through codified laws is necessary, suggesting legal provisions such as ▲establishing a definition of youth cyberbullying ▲strengthening victim protection ▲enhancing preventive education ▲reinforcing responsibilities of national and local governments.
The 'Blue Elephant' project, a youth cyberbullying prevention activity started by the Blue Tree Foundation and Samsung in February 2020, combines 'elephant,' which protects each other in groups, and the color 'blue,' symbolizing peace and stability. It carries the meaning of preventing and eradicating violence in the cyber jungle. Five affiliates including Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, and Samsung SDS support the project.
Jang Deok-hyun, President of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, said in his greeting, "Through this forum, I hope to confirm the evolving phenomenon of youth cyberbullying and propose practical solutions," adding, "Samsung Electro-Mechanics will do its best so that youth can grow up bright and healthy without being exposed to dangerous cyberbullying."
