[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 4th that it will exclusively pilot the child meal mobile payment system in Gyeonggi Province starting from the 5th.

The child meal mobile payment can be used through CU's membership application, Pocket CU. Once the child meal card is registered on Pocket CU for the first time, customers can prepay for products in the reservation purchase menu and then pick them up at the store on the designated date.

The products available for purchase include about 70 items such as lunch boxes, gimbap, rice balls, sandwiches, hamburgers, and desserts. A 20% discount is automatically applied when paying via Pocket CU mobile payment, and membership points are also accumulated at 1-2%, providing additional benefits.

Starting with the Gyeonggi Province area, CU plans to expand the child meal mobile payment system nationwide from next year to Daejeon, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk, Jeju, and other regions. Currently, CU participates in the child meal card program in a total of 250 city and county-level areas nationwide.

A BGF Retail official said, “CU continuously introduces high-quality convenience foods made with carefully selected ingredients to provide healthy meals for our children,” adding, “We will work together with local governments and NH Nonghyup Bank to contribute to the warm development of local communities and strive to expand the child meal mobile payment system nationwide as soon as possible.”
