All 5 Crew Members Rescued from Grounded Vessel off Galmokdo, Jindo County Last November
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Fishermen who actively participated in the rescue efforts during the ship grounding accident off Galmokdo, Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, received a letter of appreciation from the Coast Guard.
Mokpo Coast Guard announced on the 2nd that on the 23rd of last month, they presented letters of appreciation to Captain Song Hoon-young (53) and Choi Hae-jin (55) of the Venus, who cooperated in the rescue when the coastal modified angler net fishing vessel A (9.77t, 5 crew members) ran aground on a reef 500m south of Galmokdo, Jindo-gun.
While fishing near the accident site, they responded without hesitation to the Coast Guard's request for rescue cooperation, moving to the scene and calmly rescuing all five crew members of vessel A, which was in a precarious state grounded on the reef.
At the time, the maritime weather conditions included strong winds of 7 to 11 m/s and fast currents, making it difficult to even approach vessel A, but they risked danger and safely rescued all crew members.
In appreciation of their contribution to saving lives, Mokpo Coast Guard personally visited them on the afternoon of the 1st and presented the letters of appreciation.
Lee Jong-wook, Chief of Mokpo Coast Guard, said, “Thanks to your active cooperation in the rescue operation, greater damage was prevented,” and added, “We sincerely thank both of you for your prompt and dedicated assistance.”
