Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam conducted 'Four Major Violence Prevention Education' for all employees.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] On the 2nd, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam conducted the legally mandated “4 Major Violence Prevention Education” for all employees at the City Hall Citizen Hall to foster a gender-equal organizational culture.
This comes as incidents revealing problems in the public service sector, such as sexual harassment, bullying, and abuse of power, have recently occurred in some local governments, emphasizing the growing need for violence prevention education that reflects the current trends influenced by workplace relationships, awareness, and generational differences.
Accordingly, the city invited instructor Hong Mi-seon, director of the Maumchae Psychological Counseling Center and a specialized violence prevention education instructor at the Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education, to provide a session covering causes of sexual harassment (sexual violence), analysis of workplace sexual harassment cases, how to use sexual harassment and sexual violence counseling channels, and prevention of secondary damage, aiming to establish a proper adult awareness as public officials.
Throughout this year, the city will operate a grievance counseling channel year-round to create an organizational culture free from sexual harassment, sexual violence, and bullying within the public service sector, and will continuously conduct separate prevention education for all employees and executives at grade 5 or higher to prevent the 4 major types of violence including sexual harassment, sexual violence, domestic violence, and prostitution.
Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, “Through the 4 Major Violence Prevention Education, correct awareness and behavior regarding gender are not merely individual issues but have a significant impact on the organization and are directly linked to organizational development,” adding, “We hope this education will greatly contribute to establishing a discrimination-free gender-equal culture and fostering a healthy workplace atmosphere.”
