[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The 'Ruling-Opposition-Government Consultative Body,' a communication and cooperation organization for discussing livelihood issues between Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, held its first meeting on the 1st and began full-scale activities.

The Ruling-Opposition-Government Consultative Body is co-chaired by Yeom Tae-young, Deputy Governor for Economy of the province, Nam Jong-seop, the Democratic Party representative member of the Provincial Council, and Kwak Mi-sook, the People Power Party representative member. It consists of a total of 19 members: 6 from Gyeonggi Province (Governor, Deputy Governor for Economy, Chief Policy Officer, Chief Political Officer, Director of Planning and Coordination Office, Director of Communication and Cooperation Bureau) and 13 from the Gyeonggi Provincial Council (Council Chairperson, Democratic Party and People Power Party representative members, Chief Deputy Representatives, Policy Committee Chairpersons, Chief Spokespersons, Democratic Party Chief Political Officer and Chief Planning Officer, People Power Party Chief Legal Officer and Chief Planning Officer).

The consultative body will perform functions of consultation and agreement on major provincial policies, ordinances, budget proposals, and the Provincial Council's policies and strategic projects. Meetings are scheduled to be held once each in the first and second halves of the year as regular meetings and once quarterly as extraordinary meetings, but can be convened as needed to discuss urgent issues. The Governor and the Chairperson of the Provincial Council attend the regular meetings.

Gyeonggi Province expects that since the Ruling-Opposition-Government Consultative Body was established as a permanent consultative body with difficulty, the executive branch, the Provincial Council, and both ruling and opposition parties will be able to consult and respond swiftly to major provincial issues.

On the day, the consultative body held its first working-level meeting at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office with 17 attendees, including Deputy Governor for Economy Yeom Tae-young and representative members Nam Jong-seop and Kwak Mi-sook, to discuss major provincial issues.
