Dongjak-gu Recruiting 177 Participants for 2023 Disabled Employment Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu, Seoul, is conducting a project to distribute the ‘Euneun (from reclusive youth to reclusive youth) Kit’ to discover reclusive young people and provide them with psychological stability.
Reclusive youth refers to young people who, without any clear reason, do not leave their room or home for more than three months and do not engage in social activities such as studies or work. Their numbers have increased due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, but it is difficult to identify them, so the current situation is not properly understood.
Accordingly, the district has been carrying out support projects for reclusive and isolated youth centered on the Nowon Youth Work-Life Center (Director Seo Jeong-hwa), and as part of this, organized a virtual company called ‘Neuseun Company’ to support the social advancement of reclusive youth.
The Euneun Kit being distributed this time is the result created by reclusive youth participating in Neuseun Company as they complete their activities. It provides an opportunity to build social relationships by sharing greetings and gifts personally planned and made with other reclusive youth in the area.
The kit components were planned through meetings by the youth belonging to Neuseun Company and made by participating in linked programs where they experience working at local workshops and bookstores. It consists of natural soap, calligraphy postcards, mask straps, books, and COVID-19 prevention supplies.
The Euneun Kit can be applied for by any youth aged 19 to 39 residing in Nowon-gu who feel they are living a reclusive life. Applications can be made through the Work-Life Center website and will be delivered to their homes within December.
The district expects that by sharing the Euneun Kit, it will be possible to discover reclusive youth in the area and provide an opportunity to form empathy among young people, even though there are no accurate statistics on reclusive youth.
Meanwhile, since July, 45 young people have participated in the virtual company ‘Neuseun Company’ project started by the Work-Life Center, and the program was conducted non-face-to-face to minimize the burden on participants.
By setting commuting times to help maintain a regular lifestyle, providing unique non-face-to-face programs such as ‘weekly meetings’ to share daily lives and ‘department meetings’ chosen according to hobbies, isolated youth were gradually encouraged to recover social relationships and gain confidence.
Oh Seung-rok, mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Reclusive youth are no longer just an individual problem but a social issue that we must consider together, so we are trying various support projects. We will continue to listen to the voices of young people and work together to solve the problems they face.”
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) will hold the ‘2022 Gwanak Youth Employment Concert’ at 7 p.m. on the 9th in the main auditorium of Gwanak-gu Office.
This employment concert is prepared as a healing space where young people can find solutions through empathy and communication about their various employment concerns and receive small comfort through music.
The first part begins with the story of Hwang Hae-su, a Gwanak-gu youth who operates the YouTube channel ‘All About Jobs’ with 850,000 subscribers and is the author of ‘I Learned the World Through Part-time Jobs.’ Under the theme ‘When you don’t know what to do but don’t want to live like this,’ he candidly shares his employment experiences to provide realistic employment advice that motivates and boosts confidence among young people.
In the second part, employment experts will provide practical advice on job searching. Panels including a former liquor company HR manager and a job data analyst will offer customized employment solutions to young people worried about employment and career paths.
Following this, a ‘Healing Music Talk Concert’ is prepared. The young singer-songwriter ‘Alco,’ who is also a musician with experience in video shooting and editing and recording engineering for various singers, will perform songs such as ‘Pongdang,’ ‘Good Night,’ and ‘Pig’s Journey,’ which contain the sweet and bitter life stories of youth, healing their hearts.
Participation is open to anyone aged 19 or older, and pre-registration is required by accessing the QR code by the 7th.
A district official said, “We hope this youth employment concert will be a precious healing time that offers small comfort, confidence, and hope to young people struggling and worrying about job searching.”
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) Education Support Center will hold ‘Jung-gu Village United by Play and Learning 2022 Iroum Play’ from 1 p.m. on the 10th.
A rich experience program integrating 4th industrial technologies into play, along with performances, exhibitions, and a sharing market, will be held as a learning and play festival for the whole family.
The Iroum Play program consists of four areas: ▲Digital PLAY (robot sports day, 4th industrial programs (VR, AR, Ozobot, 3D pen), face recognition Kkureogi arcade) ▲Performance PLAY (Batucada parade, elementary band Song Again) ▲Sharing PLAY (Anabada market culture learning, youth chef snack booth, Iroum treasure hunt) ▲Experience PLAY (ball pool air bounce, photo zone traditional four-cut photo booth, 24 solar terms card game, VR/art exhibition).
4th Industrial Technology Is Not Difficult!
Especially, ‘Digital PLAY’ is prepared to help children and adolescents easily and enjoyably experience 4th industrial technologies and reduce the digital education gap. Activities such as ‘robot soccer’ and ‘robot tug-of-war’ using coding and robotics, VR experiences exploring outer space, and the ‘Kkureogi arcade’ using face recognition technology for emotional interaction await participation from children and youth.
Iroum Play Created Together with Residents!
Resident groups will also participate, presenting diverse events. The local cultural arts group ‘Manri Art Makers’ will present a VR exhibition program, and the parent group ‘Haenghaengdan,’ developing traditional culture content, will showcase the ‘24 Solar Terms Game.’
Youth clubs ‘Mangdu Design Club,’ ‘Ghost Art Club,’ and ‘Youth Chef’ will operate exhibitions, goods, and snack booths to demonstrate their skills. The parents’ group from Sindang-dong daycare will also run a sharing market to encourage more resident participation and response.
Mayor Kim Gil-seong said, “To avoid being left behind in rapidly changing technologies, understanding 4th industrial technologies is essential. I hope families will participate together in the 2022 Iroum Play and spend time becoming familiar with future technologies through learning and play.”
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 2nd that it is recruiting participants for the ‘2023 Disabled Persons Job Project,’ which provides jobs to people with disabilities to support social participation and independence.
The district will expand the number of participants in the 2023 Disabled Persons Job Project to a total of 177, including 109 for general, part-time, and welfare jobs, 37 developmental disability care workers, and 15 intellectual disability childcare assistants.
