[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] As the collective transport refusal by the Cargo Solidarity under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions has continued for over a week, Gangwon Province raised the crisis alert level to 'Severe' on the 28th of last month and activated the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, organized into 10 working teams.

The province stated on the day, "As a proactive measure to prepare follow-up actions according to the government's work commencement order, an emergency meeting of the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters was held on the 1st, presided over by Governor Kim Jin-tae of Gangwon Province."

The province inspected the cement supply situation and the damage status of ready-mixed concrete manufacturers caused by the Cargo Solidarity's transport refusal and established a response plan including alternative transportation methods.

In particular, they closely examined the possibility of the spread of gasoline and diesel shortages, which have begun to appear at some gas stations in the metropolitan area, to Gangwon Province and prepared countermeasures.

Governor Kim Jin-tae requested, "Please thoroughly check the damage status caused by the transport refusal to minimize inconvenience and damage to residents, and focus administrative efforts on resolving the logistics difficulties."

He also instructed, "We will respond strictly to illegal activities based on the 'zero tolerance and non-compromise principle.'"
