Silla University English Education Department Wins 'Grand Prize and Encouragement Award' at National IGT Competition

Silla University English Education Department Wins 'Grand Prize and Encouragement Award' at National IGT Competition Teams awarded the Grand Prize and Encouragement Prize at the '2022 IGT Global Mock Class Demonstration National Competition' are taking a commemorative photo.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] A student team from the Department of English Education at Silla University won the grand prize and an encouragement award at the ‘2022 IGT Global Mock Teaching Demonstration National Competition’ held on the 28th.


The IGT (I am a Global Teacher) competition, hosted by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, has been held since 2014 to cultivate global and multicultural education competencies among students from nationwide education and teacher training universities who will lead future education.


At this competition, the Silla University Department of English Education’s ‘Palette (Koo Min-seon, Kim Ye-ji, Yoo Joo-hyun, Choi Da-rin) team’ received the highest award, the grand prize (Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award), and a prize of 1 million KRW in the mock teaching demonstration category with the theme ‘Fostering Multicultural Character Using English Picture Books and Smart Apps.’


Also, the ‘All or Nothing (Kang Hyo-jun, Lee Do-hyun, Lee Jang-woo, Jung Chan-woo) team’ participated in the competition with the theme ‘East Asian Daily Life Culture’ and received the encouragement award (IGT Promotion Committee Chairman Award) and 100,000 KRW.


The Palette team, which won the grand prize, was praised for demonstrating an efficient lesson by solid lesson planning and appropriately utilizing the educational app Edutech.


Yoo Joo-hyun, the representative of the grand prize-winning Palette team, said, “I gained a lot even during the process of participating in the competition, and I am very happy to see such a valuable result. I will not be complacent and will continue to develop my abilities to become a teacher who can cultivate a global mindset in future students.”


Nam Jeong-mi, head of the Department of English Education, said, “I am proud that two teams made it to the finals and won awards this year, showing that our students’ capabilities are recognized as the best nationwide. I feel gratified that the results of the field competency enhancement program are showing as students participate in the competition every year and achieve good results.”


The Department of English Education at Silla University operates the ‘Career Build-up Initiative,’ which supports essential competency management and career development according to students’ career paths, and is dedicated to training English teachers and English education experts.
