SK Biopharm, Lee Dong-hoon Appointed as New President

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] SK Biopharm announced on the 1st that it has carried out executive appointments, including the appointment of Lee Dong-hoon as the new president.

SK Biopharm held a board meeting the day before and appointed Lee Dong-hoon, head of the SK㈜ Bio Investment Center, as the new president of SK Biopharm and its U.S. subsidiary SK Life Sciences. Jo Jung-woo, who has served as CEO since 2017, will work as the head of future growth to find new growth engines for SK Biopharm. Additionally, Choi Jong-gil, an executive at the SK㈜ Bio Investment Center, was appointed as the head of the Global Strategy Headquarters.

The new president has worked at the global accounting firm KPMG, pharmaceutical companies, and the SK㈜ Bio Investment Center, carrying out numerous global new drug business developments as well as global bio investments and deals.

While working at SK㈜, he established 'ProteoVant,' a joint venture for target protein inhibitors, in collaboration with 'Roivant,' and led SK Group's global bio investments, including the acquisition of Yposkesi, a French gene and cell therapy contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), and investment in the Center for Breakthrough Medicine (CBM) located in Philadelphia, U.S., to expand into the future growth field of gene and cell therapies.

SK Biopharm explained that the new president is the best candidate to accelerate SK Biopharm's global growth by executing the 'financial story.' They also added that his appointment is expected to provide strategic direction from a group perspective and create synergy among member companies.

President Lee said, "I will devote all my capabilities to help SK Biopharm, the core growth engine of SK Group's bio business, leap forward as a global healthcare company," and added, "We will pursue an expansion strategy through active global investments, discovering new businesses, and innovation."
