[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] Kakao Brain has unveiled its self-developed artificial intelligence (AI) artist model, 'Karlo.'
Kakao Brain announced on the 1st that it has released the AI artist model 'Karlo 1.0,' which quickly generates high-quality images based on input prompts, on GitHub, the world's largest open-source community.
Karlo is based on a massive AI trained on a dataset of 120 million text-image pairs. Based on the understood context, it can create unique images in various artistic styles and genres.
For example, when given the prompt "a man with an avocado face painted in the style of Ren? Magritte," Karlo understands the context and imagines and draws an image of a man with an avocado face in the style of Ren? Magritte. Rather than retrieving existing images, the AI comprehends the prompt and generates the image itself.
Kakao Brain plans to release an improved version of the Karlo model with enhanced quality and features as an open API early next year. Additionally, they intend to upgrade the model's capabilities by adding various functions such as 'Image Inpainting,' which naturally removes or edits unnecessary parts of an image, and 'Image Outpainting,' which expands images by imagining light, shadows, and surrounding objects based on existing images.
Kim Il-doo, CEO of Kakao Brain, said, "With the Karlo model we have released this time, we can utilize the infinite possibilities of AI artists in various fields," and added, "Going forward, Kakao Brain will continue to contribute to accelerating the development of the AI ecosystem by releasing world-class AI models as open source."
