Application of KT Set-Top Box, Amazon Fire TV, and NVIDIA Graphics Card
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] Samsung Electronics announced on the 1st that it will expand HDR10+ to IPTV and gaming sectors in collaboration with KT, Nvidia, and Amazon.
HDR10+ is a high-definition video standard technology led by Samsung Electronics. It optimizes brightness and contrast ratio for each scene on TVs and mobile devices, supporting enhanced depth and accurate color representation in videos. Earlier this year, Samsung announced the HDR10+ gaming-specific standard at CES 2022, the world's largest electronics exhibition held in the United States. HDR10+ has also been applied to TVs and monitors released this year.
KT plans to apply HDR10+ to new set-top boxes scheduled for introduction in the first quarter of next year. Amazon adopted the HDR10+ standard on Fire TV starting from the end of September. HDR10+ video is also supported on the Apple TV app embedded in Apple TV 4K (3rd generation), Apple's multi-set-top box device, and Samsung Electronics TVs. Nvidia announced last month that it supports the HDR10+ gaming standard on GeForce RTX and GeForce GTX 16 series graphics cards and laptops.
Yong Seok-woo, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business Division, said, "HDR10+ developed by Samsung Electronics continues to be chosen by the best IPTV service providers and gaming companies both domestically and internationally," adding, "We will continue to contribute to the development of the global content industry through active collaboration with various companies."
Samsung Electronics established the company 'HDR10+ Technology' in 2018 to expand the HDR10+ ecosystem and operates HDR10+ certification and logo programs, providing technology support for content production free of charge. So far, 142 member companies worldwide have released more than 6,000 certified products.
