[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Oh Eun-seok, the mayor of Dobong-gu, visited ‘Eum Studio,’ Dobong-gu’s representative music creation facility, on the 29th of last month and met with about 10 young planners belonging to ‘Open Changdong (OPCD).’
On this day, Mayor Oh shared the achievements of the Dobong-gu specialized music event ‘OPCD WEEK,’ held last October, with the young planners and encouraged them to further develop ‘OPCD WEEK’ next year.
‘OPCD WEEK’ is a program planned and executed directly by young planners belonging to ‘OPCD,’ an organization supporting the growth of emerging musicians, to brand Dobong-gu’s unique image. It was organized as a festival providing emerging young artists with a stage to showcase their skills and an opportunity for artists to interact with each other.
The festival featured continuous performances over two days by 12 professional artists from various genres, 27 emerging artists, and 18 DJs, centered around the plaza at Exit 1 of Changdong Station. A record fair was also held to foster and revitalize the local record scene.
After the meeting, the OPCD young planners donated the entire performance proceeds of 4,401,801 KRW from ‘OPCD WEEK’ to the ‘2022 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign,’ participating in a meaningful donation.
Oh Eun-seok, mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “It is unfortunate that many areas and stages where young musicians can perform are disappearing. Dobong-gu will continue to do its best to ensure that young musicians can freely showcase their talents and that Dobong becomes a city full of opportunities for youth.”
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) will hold the ‘2022 National Book Reading Cities Council Forum’ at 2 p.m. on the 5th at the Geumcheon Musical Center.
The ‘National Book Reading Cities Council’ was founded in 2018 with Geumcheon-gu as the chair city. It is an organization aimed at spreading reading culture and creating a book-reading community society by promoting exchange and cooperation among book-reading cities nationwide.
This forum will be held for residents and member cities of the 28 nationwide book-reading cities to promote the culture of reading. Under the theme ‘Connecting through Books,’ it will include a keynote speech, thematic presentations, discussions, and Q&A sessions. The 28 member cities will participate via Geumcheon-gu’s YouTube channel.
Starting with a keynote speech by James Hooper, a JTBC Non-Summit cast member and author of ‘One Mile Closer,’ the forum will feature three thematic presentations on ‘Travel,’ ‘Literature,’ and ‘Humanities’: ▲Writer Bae Na-young’s ‘Reading Nordic Mythology While Traveling in Northern Europe’ ▲Novelist Jang Kang-myeong’s ‘Books, What Are They?’ ▲Podcast and YouTube personality Chae Sajang’s ‘Humanities of Life.’
Residents wishing to participate on-site can apply in advance through the ‘Other Reservations’ section on the Geumcheon-gu website by December 4, and the event can also be viewed live on Geumcheon-gu’s YouTube channel on the day of the event.
Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon said, “I hope this forum will serve as a stepping stone to create an innovative and leading reading environment in this era of rapid change and lead the realization of a book-reading community society. I ask everyone to join us so that through reading, we can present answers for the future and welcome a new era together.”
