[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Hong Nampyo, mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, was indicted on the 30th for violating the Public Official Election Act.


According to the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office, Mayor Hong is accused of bribing a candidate by promising a public office during the nationwide simultaneous local elections last June.


On the 2nd, the prosecution conducted a search and seizure at Mayor Hong's residence, the city hall office, and the home of Mr. A, a member of the election campaign team during his candidacy.


On the 23rd, Mayor Hong was summoned as a suspect and interrogated from around 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.


The Changwon District Prosecutors' Office announced that Mayor Hong and three others, including Mr. A from the election campaign team, have been indicted.


Earlier, on the 4th, Mayor Hong denied the allegations, stating, "I have never proposed a public office nor accepted any demand for a public office."
