[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] Hanshin Engineering & Construction announced on the 30th that it has commenced construction of the Wirye Line urban railway.
The 'Wirye Line Urban Railway Construction Project,' which received project plan approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 28th, is an eco-friendly new transportation project promoted as part of the Wirye New Town metropolitan traffic improvement measures. A total project cost of 261.4 billion KRW will be invested to connect a 5.4 km extension with 12 stations (including 3 transfer stations) via a tram system.
The construction of this line is being handled by the Hanshin Engineering & Construction consortium as a turnkey (design and construction integrated) contractor. Led by Hanshin Engineering & Construction, the team includes KCC Construction, Daehung General Construction, GI, Dongmoon Construction, and Lotte Information & Communication. The design was carried out by Yushin and Dongil Engineering & Construction. Supervision is managed by Dongmyung Technical Corporation. The scheduled opening date is September 2025.
The tram consists of 5 cars (modules) per train. A total of 10 trains will operate at 5-minute intervals during peak hours and 10-minute intervals during off-peak hours (branch lines will operate at 10-minute intervals during peak hours and 15-minute intervals during off-peak hours).
A Hanshin Engineering & Construction official stated, "With the tram allowing travel from Line 5 Macheon Station and Line 8 Bokjeong Station and Namwirye Station to Wirye New Town, it is expected to alleviate transportation inconveniences for local residents and greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
