AWS "We Will Return More Water to Communities Than We Use"

Annual Conference 'AWS re:Invent' Held
Commitment to 'Water Positive' Companies by 2030

AWS "We Will Return More Water to Communities Than We Use"

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Amazon Web Services (hereinafter AWS) announced on the 30th that it will become a 'Water Positive (Water+)' company that returns more water to local communities than it uses in operations by 2030.

AWS made this announcement at 'AWS re:Invent,' the largest annual tech conference held in Las Vegas, USA.

Adam Selipsky, CEO of AWS, explained, "Water scarcity is a critical issue worldwide, and through today's Water Positive announcement, we are committed to helping solve this rapidly growing problem."

AWS is pursuing four core strategies to become Water+ by 2030: improving water efficiency, sustainable water use, returning water for community reuse, and supporting water replenishment projects.

Additionally, as part of the Water+ plan, AWS will annually report on water use efficiency (WUE) metrics, discovery of new water reuse and recycling cases, new activities to reduce water consumption at business sites, and the development of new and existing replenishment projects.

This announcement adds to Amazon's commitment to donate $10 million to the nonprofit organization Water.org to support the launch of the 'Water & Climate Fund,' which will provide climate-resilient water and sanitation solutions to 100 million people in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The donation will be used to directly increase water access for 1 million people by 2025 and provide 3 billion liters of water annually to people in water-scarce regions.
