[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] GS Retail, the first in the industry to implement the ‘Restaurant Hygiene Rating System,’ announced on the 30th that its robot chicken-operated store has been designated as ‘Excellent’ under the restaurant hygiene rating system.
The convenience store GS25 Dongnae Raemian I-Park branch, operating robot chicken, received the ‘Excellent’ rating in August, and the supermarket GS The Fresh Geomdan New Town branch received the same rating in November under the restaurant hygiene rating system.
The restaurant hygiene rating system, supervised by the Food Hygiene Safety Agency, evaluates the hygiene status of restaurants and designates and publicly discloses ratings for outstanding establishments to improve hygiene levels, prevent hygiene accidents, and guarantee consumers’ right to choose.
GS Retail was the first in the industry to introduce the hygiene rating system starting in June last year. As of the end of this month, 343 stores have been designated, and certification plaques are displayed prominently at stores to inform customers.
GS Retail expects that the ‘Excellent’ designation for robot chicken-operated stores will not only provide hygienic products but also help increase sales. The GS25 Dongnae Raemian I-Park branch operating robot chicken shows chicken sales approximately 1200% higher, and GS The Fresh about 300% higher compared to regular stores.
Sagong Min, Head of Store Operation Support Office at GS Retail, said, “In a social environment with heightened interest in hygiene due to various diseases such as COVID-19 and influenza, GS Retail will do its best to ensure customer safety and hygiene, thereby building a trustworthy brand and faithfully fulfilling its social responsibilities.”
