[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Jeong Jin-seok, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, raised his voice against the Democratic Party of Korea, which plans to propose a motion to dismiss Lee Sang-min, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the person responsible for the Itaewon disaster, saying, "Stop self-contradictory politics."
On the 30th, Chairman Jeong stated through his social media (SNS), "What is the intention behind suddenly proposing a motion to dismiss the Minister of the Interior and Safety before the ink on the national audit (Gukjo) plan has even dried?"
He pointed out, "The Minister of the Interior and Safety is included as a subject of the national audit investigation, so what kind of case is it to just dismiss the minister before the audit even begins or before investigating the minister?" and asked, "Did they even intend to conduct the national audit in the first place?"
He added, "It can only be interpreted as an attempt to cover up the party leader issue and to continue driving the National Assembly into a political battleground," and said, "If they want a proper investigation of the incident, they should sincerely participate in the national audit as originally agreed."
