Gwangju Seo-gu Holds 'Disabled Persons Harmony Welfare Festival' for the First Time in 3 Years

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Yi-gang) announced on the 29th that it held the 17th ‘Seo-gu Disabled People Harmony Welfare Festival’ at the Multipurpose Gymnasium of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Disabled National Sports Center.

About 300 participants including families of disabled people, organizations, and facility users in the region attended this event, which began with congratulatory performances by disabled artists such as a dance performance by the Miss Happiness Team (Happiness Daycare Center) and an accordion ensemble performance by the Vision Accordion Team, followed by awards for meritorious persons, singing and talent shows, an awards ceremony, and a raffle.

Seo-gu made thorough safety management efforts by deploying medical staff and safety personnel at the event venue to ensure the festival proceeded safely.

A Seo-gu official said, “This event was held for the first time in three years due to COVID-19,” and added, “We hope it became a time for communication and harmony for everyone.”

Meanwhile, since last September, Seo-gu has been accelerating the creation of a barrier-free city where all citizens, including socially vulnerable groups, can enjoy a convenient and safe life by promoting ordinances for creating a barrier-free city to secure mobility rights for disabled people.
