[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The child care support project in Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk, was selected as an excellent institution in the rural category in the 2021 evaluation and received the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award.
The child care support project provides visiting care services by child care providers to children under 12 years old in families experiencing parenting gaps due to reasons such as both parents working.
There are 226 service providers nationwide (as of December 31, 2021), and based on the 2021 performance, the evaluation was conducted by dividing into urban, suburban, and rural areas through quantitative and qualitative assessments. As a result, Yeongyang-gun was selected as an excellent institution in the rural area and received the Minister’s Award at the Child Care Service Providers Communication Day event on November 29.
While the utilization rate of children in most service providers nationwide is only 1 to 4%, Yeongyang-gun had 995 eligible children for the service as of September 2022, and 267 children used the service, resulting in a utilization rate of an impressive 26.8%.
The activation of this project is due to the collaboration between the service managers and 58 child care providers who deliver high-quality services tailored to the perspective of children who will lead the future.
In Yeongyang-gun, child care providers with excellent capabilities not only provide basic play activities during service but also support homework and learning, and offer various services such as art play therapy, abacus, and Hanja, resulting in very high user satisfaction.
Lee Seonjeong, director of the Multicultural Family Support Center in the county, said, “We hope that more users will use the child care service to resolve parenting gaps and further help increase the birth rate by making Yeongyang a better place to raise children.”
