Samulnori Club 'Eoyeongcha' Hosts Performance on Patrol Vessel Deck

Mokpo Coast Guard Holds Talent Donation Event Inviting Local Children's Center

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] “Deng deng kung deok kung, deng deng kung deok kung!” The sound of the Hwimori Jangdan rhythm echoed joyfully from the helicopter deck of the Mokpo Coast Guard patrol vessel 3009.

The Mokpo Coast Guard announced on the 29th that on the afternoon of the 23rd, they invited 27 elementary school students from a local children's center to the Coast Guard's exclusive pier, spending a warm time together with a ship tour event and a Samulnori performance.

The event began with instilling the importance of maritime safety to the young dreamers who will carry the future of the region and introducing the Coast Guard officers.

It was followed by ▲a visit to the steering room ▲demonstrations of various equipment on the patrol vessel ▲water safety education including wearing life jackets ▲and a high-speed boat experience.

In particular, the performance by the Mokpo Coast Guard Samulnori club ‘Eoyeongcha’ received great enthusiasm from the children participating in the event.

The ‘Eoyeongcha’ Samulnori club was formed in March 2013 by Coast Guard officers who have an interest in traditional culture such as Yeongnam Nongak, Pansori, and folk songs, and who love Korean traditional rhythms. Currently, 13 members are active, donating their talents by visiting local residents and marginalized groups directly and engaging in various volunteer activities.

Im Yonghyuk, Chief Inspector and head of the 3009 vessel, who serves as the president of Eoyeongcha, said, “In August, we also visited the Haenam Mustard Seed Community (a welfare facility for the disabled) with the Mokpo Traditional Arts Group ‘Bitorum’ to donate our Samulnori talents and conduct volunteer activities. We will continue to create opportunities to empathize and communicate with local residents and spend meaningful times together.”
