Jeonnam Province, Full Effort to Respond to Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Contest

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province is making all-out efforts to prepare for the vulnerable area living condition improvement project contest.


The province announced on the 29th that it held a briefing session for cities and counties at the Mokpo Shinan Beach Hotel ahead of the '2023 Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project' contest, which aims to improve the residential environment of underdeveloped rural fishing villages.


The Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project is a project that supports improving underdeveloped residential conditions to ensure residents a minimum quality of life.


It is a resident-led project where residents directly plan and promote projects necessary for their villages, supervised by the National Balanced Development Committee.


The main project contents include improving living infrastructure such as renovating vacant and old houses, upgrading slate roofs, expanding fire roads, and maintaining water supply and sewage systems, as well as human care services like elderly care and health management, and capacity-building projects.


The briefing session was held for city and county officials and related personnel to enhance understanding of the 2023 Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project contest and to prepare strategic countermeasures.


In particular, a professional instructor was invited to explain key points on how to write a complete and differentiated contest application to achieve high scores, and how to discover and incorporate human care and resident capacity-building projects, which are important in evaluations.


The National Balanced Development Committee's contest for the Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project proceeds in the order of ▲city and county application writing (by January 2023) ▲province preliminary evaluation ▲document, presentation, and on-site evaluation ▲final selection in February 2023.


Selected villages will receive up to 1.5 billion KRW for rural types and 3 billion KRW for urban types in national funding over four years to improve living infrastructure, renovate old houses, support resident community revitalization, and significantly contribute to improving residents' living inconveniences and quality of life.


Jeonnam Province plans to encourage many cities and counties to participate in the 2023 Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project contest and provide continuous customized consulting until the contest deadline to achieve the highest number of selections nationwide for five consecutive years.


A Jeonnam Province official said, “We will actively support building a close cooperative system with cities and counties throughout the contest process so that underdeveloped rural fishing villages become happy and laughter-filled villages through the Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project.”


Jeonnam Province recently achieved the highest number of selections nationwide for four consecutive years in the Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project contest.
