Research Presentation on Reducing Interfloor Noise
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Professor Kang Hyunwook of the Department of Architecture, Architectural Engineering Major at Gwangju University received the Excellent Paper Award at the 2022 Regular Academic Conference hosted by the Korea Construction Management Association.
According to Gwangju University on the 29th, Professor Kang collaborated with Hyundai Special Construction Digital Construction Technology Research Institute to conduct and present research on "A Method to Reduce Floor Impact Noise Using an Active Vibration Cancellation Device" for reducing inter-floor noise in apartment buildings.
This study proposed methods such as applying porous materials to the floor structure and installing an active vibration cancellation device under the floor structure to maximize the reduction of inter-floor noise, receiving excellent evaluations.
The active vibration cancellation device is a technology that installs film-type piezoelectric speakers, isolators, and vibration speakers capable of generating frequencies with amplitudes similar to the impact vibrations occurring on the upper floor, thereby canceling the impact vibrations transmitted to the lower floor.
Professor Kang said, "I will continue research activities that can contribute to the development of the construction management field," and added, "I will also guide architectural engineering students to grow as construction engineers equipped with practical knowledge and to advance into various fields."
Meanwhile, the Architectural Engineering Major achieved employment successes this year through active job guidance, with students securing positions at Hoban Construction, Jeil Construction, Bogwang Construction, Namhae General Construction, and others.
