Wins National Grand Prize in Special Category, Honored with Jeonnam Governor's Award and Minister of the Interior and Safety Award

Gwangyang Steelworks Manager Lee Seung-yeol Wins Grand Prize at Fire Safety Management Skills Competition

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Lee Seung-yeol, a manager of the Safety and Disaster Prevention Group at POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks, was recognized for his excellence in firefighting safety management skills and won the grand prize at the 1st Fire Safety Management Practical Skills Competition, receiving the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award on the 28th.


The Fire Safety Management Practical Skills Competition, held for the first time this year, was organized to discover and share effective and excellent fire safety plans considering the characteristics of fire target facilities, aiming to enhance the work capabilities of fire safety managers.


At Gwangyang Steelworks, Lee Seung-yeol participated in the special grade category and introduced the steelworks' outstanding ▲firefighting organization structure and equipment, facility status △firefighting training and education status ▲major firefighting tasks ▲fire safety management committee activities ▲inspection reinforcement and new technologies ▲corporate ethics and positive influence of POSCO as a corporate citizen.


In particular, the presentation highlighted Gwangyang Steelworks' ▲in-house CPR instructor training ▲fire pump connections across all plants ▲systematic monitoring system ▲field-centered management system, as well as the steelworks' community initiatives such as ▲installation of fire extinguishers and fire detectors ▲first aid education ▲119 volunteer group.


After passing the first preliminary round, Lee ranked first among 18 specific facilities in Jeollanam-do in the second regional preliminaries, receiving the Governor of Jeollanam-do Award. Simultaneously, he advanced to the finals where 19 teams, each ranked first in their respective fields from various cities and provinces, competed.


In the finals, he was selected first among six special grade sites, winning the ‘National Grand Prize’ and the honor of the ‘Minister of the Interior and Safety Award,’ showcasing the excellent firefighting management capabilities of Gwangyang Steelworks.


With this national grand prize win, Gwangyang Steelworks will be awarded the plaque for ‘Outstanding Fire Safety Management Practical Skills Company (Institution).’


Lee Seung-yeol, manager at Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “It was beneficial to share fire safety management plans with other institutions, and it is an honor that Gwangyang Steelworks’ fire safety activities won the grand prize at the national competition. We will continue to strive to make POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks even safer.”
