CJ CheilJedang Produces 'Mama Awards' Cheer Sticks Using Recycled Hetbahn Containers

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ CheilJedang announced on the 29th that it has produced the official lightstick for the '2022 MAMA AWARDS' by recycling returned Hetbahn containers from consumers.

The newly introduced official lightstick uses plastic material reprocessed from collected Hetbahn containers for the handle. A total of 3,000 Hetbahn containers were used, and the handle can be detached and separately disposed of in plastic recycling bins.

The official lightstick will be sold at the '2022 MAMA AWARDS' event held over two days starting on the 29th of this month at Kyocera Dome Osaka in Japan. It was co-produced by CJ CheilJedang, CJ ENM, and Bitro, and all proceeds from sales will be used by CJ ENM for tree-planting and nature conservation activities as part of its ESG management.

This official lightstick production is the first case where the local self-support center, responsible for separating and washing the used Hetbahn containers, earns revenue. The Hetbahn containers go through separation and washing processes at the local self-support center, then are transformed into clean plastic raw materials through material processing. In this process, the local self-support center increases employment and earns revenue by supplying the raw materials to companies contracted with CJ CheilJedang.

A CJ CheilJedang official said, "We ask consumers to actively participate in the collection campaign so that Hetbahn containers can be recycled in various ways in daily life," and added, "We will continue to sincerely make efforts to reduce plastic and actively practice sustainable management (ESG)."
