[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Shilla Duty Free is expanding its non-face-to-face beauty class sector through the establishment of a metaverse studio.
On the 29th, Shilla Duty Free announced that it signed a business agreement on the 28th with VIV Studios, a metaverse content art-tech company, to build a 'metaverse studio.' The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Segyu, CEO of VIV Studios, and Kim Taeho, Vice President and Head of the TR Division at Hotel Shilla.
On the same day, Shilla Duty Free and VIV Studios agreed to build a metaverse virtual studio utilizing virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies, and to collaborate on providing customers with metaverse experiences through live streaming content production based on this. They agreed to establish a new ecosystem where stakeholders participate together, not only in technology demonstrations but also in planning various contents produced through the studio, securing partners and participating customers for the content.
This year, Shilla Duty Free has consecutively introduced improvements such as revamping its internet duty-free store for better user convenience, launching 'LaViewON,' the world's first non-face-to-face consultation service in the duty-free industry, and 'non-face-to-face beauty classes' tailored to the COVID-19 era.
Through this business agreement, Shilla Duty Free plans to conduct beauty classes using digital technology in the metaverse studio. Over the past two years, Shilla Duty Free has successfully held six beauty classes in collaboration with various brands such as La Prairie and Gucci Beauty. The metaverse studio beauty classes are scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of next year.
Kim Boyeon, Executive Director and Head of the E-commerce Team at Shilla Duty Free, said, "By combining our years of experience in 'non-face-to-face beauty classes' and content planning capabilities with VIV Studios' excellent metaverse content technology, we can now provide customers with higher-level non-face-to-face beauty class content." "Through services utilizing advanced technology, we will offer customers an overwhelming sense of immersion," she added.
