[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] As of the fifth day of the general strike by the Cargo Solidarity of the Public Transport Workers' Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the cement industry has recorded cumulative losses of 64.2 billion KRW.
According to the Korea Cement Association on the 28th, due to the collective transport refusal by the Cargo Solidarity, only 22,000 tons out of approximately 200,000 tons scheduled for shipment on that day were shipped. The disrupted volume was 178,000 tons, resulting in sales losses of about 17.8 billion KRW for the day, with cumulative sales losses reaching 64.2 billion KRW.
A representative from the Cement Association stated, "With the help of public authority (police), some cement shipments were made from the Donghae, Samcheok, Yeongwol, and Danyang plants, as well as the Susaek Station distribution base, but the amount is far too insufficient to recover the shipment disruptions."
