Introduction to the Korean Language Officer System and Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education's Public Language Improvement Project
The Korean Language and Culture Center at Gyeongsang National University held the 2022 Joint Seminar on Korean Language Policy.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Gyeongsang National University Korean Language and Culture Center announced on the 28th that it held the '2022 Korean Language Policy Joint Seminar' at the BNIT R&D Center on the Gajwa Campus to improve the work capabilities of Korean language officers and the Korean language proficiency of Gyeongnam residents, as well as to establish measures for improving public language.
The seminar was attended by ▲ Korean language officers from Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government and city/counties ▲ Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education, education support offices, and affiliated institutions ▲ Korean language officers from central government agencies ▲ and officials from Gyeongsang National University Korean Language and Culture Center.
The seminar proceeded with presentations and discussions on topics such as ▲ Introduction to the Korean Language Officer system, roles, and directions (Kim Min-guk, Director of Gyeongsang National University Korean Language and Culture Center) ▲ The role of the Korean Language and Culture Center (Park Si-eun, Researcher at Gyeongsang National University Korean Language and Culture Center) ▲ Introduction to the public language improvement project of Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education (Shin Seung-wook, Public Relations Officer of Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education).
After the presentations, discussions were held on cooperation measures between Korean language officers and the Korean Language and Culture Center.
The participating officials said, "We learned that various institutions, including the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education which directly employs Korean language experts, are making various efforts, big and small, to use public language correctly," adding, "Starting next year, we will continuously allocate budgets for public language projects to create exemplary cases of public language use."
Kim Min-guk, Director of the Korean Language and Culture Center, said, "Since this seminar was held face-to-face for the first time in three years due to COVID-19, it was a time for in-depth discussion," and added, "Going forward, Gyeongsang National University Korean Language and Culture Center and Gyeongnam Korean language officers should join hands and take the lead in discovering effective Korean language policies."
