On-site Inspection Conducted to Resolve Resident Conflicts During Regular Meeting Period

Jinju City Council Visits Candidate Site for Comprehensive Pet Support Center Members of the Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam visited the site candidate for the construction of the Comprehensive Pet Support Center.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Economic and Welfare Committee of Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam conducted an on-site inspection on the 28th to identify candidate sites for the construction of a Comprehensive Companion Animal Support Center.

The on-site inspection was carried out to accurately assess the situation following protests by local residents on the 23rd opposing the planned construction of the Comprehensive Companion Animal Support Center in the Panmun-dong area, as well as disagreements between Jinju City and the City Council during the Economic and Welfare Committee’s administrative report on the 24th.

The committee members visiting the site compared and analyzed concerns raised by residents, such as noise and water pollution in the protected water supply area, alongside Jinju City’s points about accessibility and regional economic revitalization. They frequently exchanged opinions among themselves while conducting the inspection.

After the inspection, Committee Chairperson Yoon Seong-gwan stated, “The establishment of a companion dog support center is absolutely necessary. However, based on previous cases, if the project proceeds ignoring residents’ opposition, there has never been a case where the project was smoothly carried out. A review of the project is needed to achieve the best outcome that satisfies all residents.”

Jinju City plans to include an indoor and outdoor playground for companion animals, an education center, and a pet caf? in the Companion Animal Support Center, while the Animal Protection Center will consist of a clinic for abandoned animals, shelter rooms, and counseling rooms.
