Gwangju Nam-gu Special Care for Elderly Living Alone During Winter Cold Wave

Gwangju Nam-gu Special Care for Elderly Living Alone During Winter Cold Wave

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is implementing measures to manage the health of elderly people living alone until March next year as the full-scale winter cold wave season approaches.

According to Nam-gu on the 28th, special health management for elderly people living alone will be conducted for 15 weeks from today until March 10 next year.

This is because they are highly exposed to the risk of cold waves due to the absence of cohabiting family members.

Approximately 280 people have been identified as special management targets.

Nam-gu plans to form a visiting health care team consisting of nurses and staff to help elderly people living alone wisely overcome the cold wave crisis by visiting their homes or calling them once a week to provide health management guidelines for cold wave-related diseases, nutrition management, and fall prevention education.

In addition, precautions for using heating devices will be provided to prevent fires.

Along with this, warm and easy-to-carry knee blankets will be provided to each elderly person to help them prepare for the cold.

Furthermore, starting in December, Nam-gu will supply emergency first aid kits to newly established senior centers in the district and replace items in existing first aid kits that are empty or past their expiration date.

A Nam-gu official stated, “We will do our best to implement special health management measures so that vulnerable residents, including elderly people living alone, can spend the winter warmly in a safe environment.”
