‘Goraehwa (畵) Season 2 - People Going to the Sea’ … Ulsan City Dance Company to Premiere on December 2

Pursuing True Humanity Through the Bangudae Petroglyphs

‘Goraehwa (畵) Season 2 - People Going to the Sea’ … Ulsan City Dance Company to Premiere on December 2 The intense love for the baby whale resulting from the sacrifice of the mother whale is depicted in 'Whale Painting Season 2 - People Going to the Sea' (performance from last year).

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Ulsan City Dance Company’s 46th regular performance, "Goraehwa (畵) Season 2 - People Going to the Sea," will open on December 2nd at 8 PM on the main stage of the Ulsan Culture and Arts Center.

Following last December’s performance, the second season of Goraehwa (畵) features Artistic Director Hong Eunju, who took charge of both choreography and direction, presenting an upgraded stage to the audience.

This work, planned to explore the true humanity that modern times have lost through National Treasure No. 285 Bangudae Petroglyphs, is composed of ▲“First Act (Prologue): Blue Whale - Hidden by Desire” ▲Chapter 1: Twisted Faces ▲Chapter 2: Returning to the Fields (#1 Petroglyph Story, #2 People of the Fields, #3 Our Rituals) ▲Chapter 3: People Going to the Sea (#1 Land’s Edge, #2 Blue Whale, #3 Warrior’s Blood & Chaos) ▲Chapter 4: Celebration and Ritual (#1 Welcoming Back, #2 Hymn of Joy) ▲Final Act (Epilogue): Drawing a Life Together Again Now.

This year, the performance actively utilizes stage elements such as set design, video, costumes, and lighting, while integrating theatrical elements, installation art, and various fields like rings, creating a multi-disciplinary fusion that stimulates the audience’s five senses and leaves a lingering impression that reconsiders human desire and the meaning of “us.”

The journey of humans hunting whales together, seeking to be more truly human and enrich relationships with others, is woven into contemporary dance with splendid stage, lighting, and costumes, creating a cinematic experience.

Ticket prices are 10,000 KRW for R seats and 7,000 KRW for S seats. Members of the center receive a 30% discount, groups get 20%, and students (elementary, middle, high school) and youth card holders receive a 50% discount.

Reservations and inquiries can be made through the Ulsan Culture and Arts Center website or by phone.

Artistic Director Hong Eunju said, “This Season 2 expresses the profound love of a baby whale following the sacrifice of the mother whale. Through this, I hope people today reflect on love between individuals and that warmth remains in life.”
